As we write, Class 4 children are on their way to Worcester Cathedral to meet with other primary schools in the Diocese of Worcester.  They will be spending the day learning about the Christian Faith by way of dance, drama and song and other artistic activities such as making their own banner for use in the Eucharist service this afternoon.  We always get wonderfully positive comments when we take Abberley children on visits outside of school so we are looking forward to hearing all about today’s trip later.

Please don’t forget that next Wednesday is Gardening Club’s ‘Ground Force Day’.  Even if you haven’t sent in your slip to offer help the children would still be really pleased to see you – anytime from the end of school until 6 p.m. Of course, huge thanks to those of you who have already pledged your time and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Many children have bought their sunflower seeds to take part in our growing competition.  Mrs Day still has some seeds on offer so why not join in the fun.  £1 for 2 seeds.  Prizes will be given for the tallest plant at the end of term.

CHOIR   Please note that the after school club on Mondays will cease after next week to make way for rehearsals for the summer production.  The children will be singing at the Family Service next Thursday.

WE WARMLYINVITE YOU TO OUR  FAMILY ASSEMBLY IN THE VILLAGE HALL NEXT THURSDAY, 1ST MAY

We will be holding a recycled uniform sale next week at the end of each school day.  You will find the garments displayed in the school library and prices will be very reasonable.  We have some very good quality clothes on offer so please come along to have a look.

As you know, we hold Healthy School status and we are happy to promote this year’s Abberley 10K and Family Fun Run on 11th May.  The school will be running a Tombola at the event and donations of any suitable prizes (toys, toiletries, etc.) would be very much appreciated.  Please bring them in to school any time up until Friday, 9th May.  If you could help on the day, either beforehand to label up the prizes, or during the afternoon, that would be great, too.  Please let Mrs Haydon know if you would like to be involved.

We have now finalised our proposed trip to London for Years 5 and 6.  This will be a very special adventure for at least three of our party as we will be taking visitors from The Gambia with us.  Class 4 will be receiving a separate letter shortly outlining the visit and the cost involved so please look out for that in the next few days.

Another bit of advanced news is that next year’s Year 5 and 6 residential visit to the Malvern Hills Outdoor Centre has been booked and will take place from Monday, 29th September to Wednesday, 1st October 2008.  The cost per pupil for catered accommodation and all activities will be £128.05 (55p of this will be for insurance for the trip and is optional).  Letters will be sent out in the next couple of weeks and there will be an option to pay the fees by instalments.

Netball – Wednesday lunch time

Football for Yrs 3,4,5 and 6 after school on Wednesday

Tag Rugby Thursday lunchtime

This club will run again this term if children are interested.  Please let Mrs Birch or Mrs Day know.  School P.E. kit would get far to muddy so players must have a separate set of kit for this (including footwear).  Any colour or style of kit is fine as long as it is suitable for playing rugby  it will need to be taken home for washing each week.

Football coaching for Swifts and Ants  Thursday after school.

You will also be receiving 'Summer Raffle' tickets this week  please try and sell as many as you can, and bring any spare back to school. (Please return all ticket stubs, money and any unsold raffle tickets to school by Friday, 23rd May) Once again this year we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our local businesses.  There are lots of super raffle prizes including cash prize of 100, Worcestershire County Cricket Club Game Tickets, 2 Premiere Enclosure tickets for Worcester Race Course, West Midland Safari Park Tickets, Webbs Vouchers, Black Country Museum Tickets, two separate pairs of meals out (yummy), Hamper, Thyme for Tea Voucher, Swan Theatre Voucher, Family Ticket for Malvern Splash and more still to come!  So many thanks to our local businesses that have given so generously.
